Foreword: Pso has been a great deal of fun for me and many other users on the net. Pso episode III is the next installment in the series. Its card battle system may make you wonder... "do i reall want to waste money on a yugioh type card game?" Well Pso episode 3 may not be the best but it is a very interesting game if you learn the rules.
I. Graphics
The grapics on the field are unfortunately not very different from Pso episode I & II. The CG is put into play in this game(unlike the first game). The graphics then look very nice and pleasant. They have even installed little manga-type comics into this Pso... which may be nice or just a waste of time. Overall, the graphics are really nice and the environment is just stunning.
4/5
II. Sound
The sound of this game is just great, the music is beautiful, they have added voices to this game which makes it a very different experience. Whats even cooler is the ability to play with the loading screens! You can make your own music in the loading screen by pressing various buttons! The voices may seem bleak, but the music in this game makes up for everything!
4.5/5
III. Gameplay
The gameplay however has its downsides... with turn by turn combat the game may seem slower online(due to those who take a lot of time to think). The card concept is a lot like yu-gi-oh!: duelist of the roses. Tactical card gaming is alot like the game on the ps2 console with the ability to summon monsters and move them and use them to attack your opponent(which will be another human or character not a monster). The gameplay is linear, attack your opponent and reduce his/her hp to 0. Actions are determined by cards(three categories: Monster, Action, Equip) and the roll of the dice at the beginning of your turn to determine your attck and defense. Monsters will include your favorite monsters from episodes 1&2 (these being anything from the rag rappy from the booma). Your actions will most likely be to attack and evade. Combos can be executed by combining your attack cards. Equip cards include many of your weapons from the first game including the saber, handgun, and the partisan anlong with your special weapons including the db saber and photon launcher. Of course protecting yourself is also good, so remember to equip your barriers, frames, and mags! Like Final Fantasy Tactics it uses the mission based system to progress in the game. Overall the gameplay is moderate and the card game may get a little getting used to.
3.5/5
IV. Story
This game has a well plotted story. Like Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, you can choose the hero side(Hunters) or the Dark side(Arks). The story has few downsides including having to play the first and second episode to get the whole story! Otherwise i have no big problems.
5/5
V. Replay Value
Although it is not as addicting this game can get fun when the card game is understood completely. Overall you can play this game many times over and over again with little repetition.
4/5
VI. Final Score
The game is not as fast paced as the original Pso but it is worth checking out. You never know when you may be addicted to its innovative charm!
7/10
Try it out! Its finally out!
